Celtic Bands (and our friends here in Central Florida):

The Wyndbreakers

Florida’s high-tech, low brow, pub rockin’, neotraditional, blatantly harmonizin’, nearly acoustic, sorta not, modern retro, underpriced, interactive, Irish & Scottish music band!!!

Marcille Wallis and Ceol Binn

Translated from Irish, "ceol binn" means "sweet music".  And sweet it is as Marcille Wallis, on hammer dulcimer, is joined by a number of talented musicians to play haunting melodies from Brittany and Galicia, rousing reels and jigs from Ireland, and traditional Scottish pipe tunes with a non-traditional twist. Based in Florida, Marcille Wallis performs frequently in concerts, festivals, theme parks, bookstores, restaurants and pubs, and is available for weddings, private parties and school workshops. Listen to selections from their CDs, The Celtic Ray, Christmas With The Celts & Be Thou My Vision.

Florida Area Celtic/Scottish/Irish Information and Events:

All of these groups have two major things in common, regardless of the variety of Celts they contain: one, they’re great folks with a passionate interest in their heritage who really know how to have a good time; and two, they’re guaranteed to give like-minded newcomers a warm welcome. So, if you don’t already belong to one or more, come on down and see what they’re all about:

New World Celts

The New World Celts is a charitable organization dedicated to promoting Celtic History and supporting Celtic Culture in the New World. An International Board of Directors governs local Chapters, who raise funds to support small Celtic Cultural groups.  Membership is open to all with an interest in Celtic Culture.

And, the newest organization is the Orlando chapter of the New World Celts, which meets at 7:00 p.m. on the second Thursday of every month at the Claddagh Cottage Irish Pub and Restaurant in south Orlando at 4308 Curry Ford Road, which is barely one block east of the intersection of Curry Ford and Conway Road, in a smallish strip mall on the south side of the street, just next to a funeral home (yes, they’ve had wakes at the Cottage!). For those of you who are not familiar with this group, the NWC embraces and encompasses all of the various Celtic origins and traditions in the Americas, Australia and beyond, i.e., the new world.  Originating in Dunedin, the NWC has spread fast and furiously, and the Orlando chapter was born about six months ago.  We specialize in information about families and traditions, Celtic arts, and a good time, and even raise some funds now and then to support study in these areas.  Our freshman effort was an Irish breakfast at the Cottage last August, and a good time was had by all.

Scottish American Society of Central Florida

The Scottish American Society welcomes all who are interested in Scottish Traditions and Heritage.  The Society is a not-for-profit organization with membership to all regardless of age, sex, national origin, or religious belief.  Its mission is to perpetuate Scottish Heritage and Traditions in the Central Florida area. The Society also is the proud sponsor of the Games, and they are now in their pre-Games mode, with meetings the second Sunday of every month starting at 3:00.  The October meeting will be at Central Winds Park itself, which is just a little bit west (technically northwest, I suppose) of Tuskawilla on S.R. 434.  Check the flascot.com website for a really good map.  Anyway, come on out if you belong already, come meet some new folks if you don’t, enjoy some food and conviviality, and, while I don’t yet have the final confirmation, we’re holding the date open to play a few tunes as well.
